COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIPS 2009 at TADMARTON HEATH GCJane Binning of Frilford Heath won the County Championship hosted this year by Tadmarton Heath Golf Club.Despite the weather on the qualifying day being very wet and windy there was some terrific golf including a 2 under par by Tilly Holder (affiliated) in the afternoon round. Day 2’s morning match saw Jane beat Judy McCairns of Oxford Ladies 6&5. Jane met 15 year old Gemma Clements of Studley Wood in the quarter finals winning 4&2. Jane then faced Abi Laker just 14 years old of Burford in the semi finals - Abi having beaten Sam Round (affiliated), the current County Champion, in the previous round. The experience of Jane together with her outstanding putting saw her through into the final with a 4&3 win over Abi. The other finalist was Laura Watkins of Bicester. Laura beat Kate Evans of Frilford Heath 4&3 in the first round and then went on to beat Katherine O’Connor of Tadmarton Heath in the quarter finals 1up. Laura met Lauren Jupp of Studley Wood in the semi-final. They had an exceptionally close match finishing on the first extra hole with Laura’s second shot inches away from the flag securing her place in the final. The final itself was a fiercely fought match with Laura coming back from dormy 3 down to take Jane to the final putt on the 18th. Well played to both Jane and Laura, and congratulations to Jane on winning the County Championship.
