COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIPS 2010 at BADGEMORE PARK GC

On another lovely spring day the 2 semi finalist matches were played between Jane Binning and Lauren Jupp and Tilly Magill and Kath O’Connor.

Jane and Lauren were first out and played a really close match with birdies being traded between them. There was never more than a hole between them and the standard of golf was superb. They were all square after 18 holes so yet another match went down the 19th. Jane then won the 19th hole. Well played to both players for some fabulous entertaining golf.

Tilly and Kath had an equally close match with more fabulous golf being played. Kath was 3 up with 3 to play and Tilly fought back to take the match to extra holes. Like her match against Sam Round in the quarter finals this match also went to the 20th. On this occasion though Kath was the victor.

The final between Jane (the defending champion) and Kath was always going to be a close match. Again birdies went to both players and the match was never more than a hole apart. Kath was 1 up on the 17th and Jane chipped in for a birdie so the match was all square on the 18th. Kath, however, had the edge on the 18th green and went on to win The Championship.

Congratulations to Kath O’Connor on her victory and our new County Champion.

Very well played to all the competitors – the standard of golf at the Championships was of a particularly high standard this year, and a pleasure to watch.
