Two Oxfordshire players through to the semi-finals
of Midlands South Championship

Tilly Magill (yesterday’s winner of the 36-hole competition) and Jane Binning (both Oxfordshire players) are through to the semi-finals of the Midlands South championship.

Unfortunately they have to play each other as a result of all the Oxfordshire players being on the same side of the knock out draw!

The morning weather conditions of heavy rain and strong winds at The Oxfordshire today (Tuesday) were a challenge to the golfing skills of the players, making the playing conditions very difficult.

Tilly Magill played Nikki Ochtman (Berks) and had an excellent 6&4 win.

The second match between Gemma Clements (Oxon) and Steph Gough (Bucks)was a very close affair with both getting birdies to secure the half! The match went to one extra hole which resulted in a win for Steph Gough.

The third match was equally close with two Oxfordshire players drawn against each other – Abi Laker and Kate Evans. However, Abi managed to pull ahead and won 2&1.

Jane Binning played Gemma Glenister (Herefordshire & Worcs) in the fourth match and again it was a very close match with Jane securing her victory on the 17th hole.

Claire Howells (Warks) beat Mary McClaren (Northants) 2up after being dormy 4 up but Mary was not going to be beaten that easily and fought back but just not enough!

Matches 6 and 7 were just as cloe with Jessica Burrows (Bucks) just beating Anna Rock (Herefordshire & Worcs) 1up, and Zoe Fitz-Costa (Bucks) just beating fellow club member Annabel Dimmock 2up.

The final match of the morning was Nicola Taylor (Warks) v Megan McClaren with Megan having a reasonably comfortable 5&4 win.

The weather improved for the afternoon rounds and the quarter-finals saw some more fantastic golf.

Tilly Magill had anot over Steph Gough.

Abi Laker and Jane Binning (another match with two Oxfordshire players against each other!) was a close affair until Jane managed to pull ahead with several back-to-back birdies on the way to a 5&3 victory.

Claire Howell & Jessica Burrows had a good tussle but Jessica managed to pull ahead and then secured a victory of 3/2.

The final match with Megan McClaren and Zoe Fitz-Costa resulted in a 4&3 victory to Megan.

Some of the scores do not reflect the fabulous golf played by all the players in the quarter-finals.

Tomorrow’s semi-finals begin at 8.30am:

Tilly Magill v Jane Binning (both Oxon)

Jessica Burrows (Bucks) v Megan McClaren (Northants)
