18th hole heartache for Tilly as Megan McClaren
wins the Midlands South Championship

In the morning semi-finals Tilly Magill met her Oxfordshire teammate Jane Binning while Jessica Burrows (Bucks) played Megan McClaren (Northants).

The match between the two Oxfordshire players was very close at the start and played in good spirit. However, Tilly recorded back-to-back birdies to put pressure on Jane and gradually pulled out a strong lead. Tilly won the match 6&5 – another great result for her.

The second match was a lot closer and again some excellent golf was played with Jessica pulling ahead with a 3-hole lead. However Megan fought back and went on to win the match 2&1.

The final between Tilly & Megan was a superb match with fabulous golf being played by both competitors. There was never more than a 1-hole lead with holes being halved or won with birdies. Going to the last, the match was all square but Megan hit a fabulous second shot into the green to won the hole.

Megan finished the match 3-under par and well deserved to win the Championship.

Commiserations to Tilly who also played below par but just lost on the 18th.

Many thanks to Christine Reeves the Oxfordshire EWGA delegate for organising the Championship on behalf of Oxfordshire County and to The Oxfordshire for hosting the event.
