Gemma lifts BB&O girls championshipOxfordshire's own Gemma Clements lifted the BB&O Girls Championships when Oxon hosted the event at Studley Wood Golf Club on Wednesday, April 20. A strong field of under-18’s from Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire contended for the title in ideal conditions. Enjoying the benefit of playing on her own territory, Gemma recorded a gross 77, playing to her 5 handicap in her last year as a junior). Runner-up on countback was Elizabeth Swallow (Newbury Racecourse GC). She was two shots adrift with Sophie Stone (Magnolia Park), also on gross 79, in third place. Alice Kozlowsia (Ellesborough) won the handicap prize with a nett 70 off 12hcp, on countback from Charlotte West (8) from Harewood Downs. Olivia Herring (23 hcp), another Studley player, was third also with a nett 70. There was also a stableford competition for the higher handicap girls which was won by Imogen Wilson (26 hcp) from Blue Mountain with 42 points. Oxfordshire's Harriet Hancock (hcp 31) from Chipping Norton was runner-up after notching 40 points and in third place was Olivia Stone, Studley Wood (hcp 36) on 38 points. For newcomers to golf there was a 9-hole stableford competition which was won by Studley’s Bryony Saint with a very creditable 23 points with Chipping Norton's Emma Whiston runner-up. Oxfordshire won the team event with an impressive 142 nett. The team of three – Gemma Clements, Olivia Herring and Sally Ayres from Frilford – was nominated by the junior organiser Jenny Reynolds prior to play, with the best two scores counting for the team competition. |
