COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIPS 2011 at BURFORD GC

Katherine O’Connor retained her county champion title after beating Tilly Magill in the final of the OLCGA championships held at Burford Golf Club on April 14.

This is the third time 21-year-old Katherine has won the title, the first occasion was in 2007 at Studley Wood and last year at Badgemore.

Katherine stormed her way through the match play knock-out rounds dismissing Karen Pollard of Henley 6/4, Samantha Round (Cotswold Hills) 4/3, Abi Laker playing on home turf 3/2, to meet Tilly Magill (affiliated to OLCGA but a member of Woburn) in the final. 

Katherine shot three under par over the first nine and went on to birdie the par 3 11th to go three up and closed the match on the par 3 15th to win 4/3. 

Tilly, on the other hand set herself up for birdies but the putts just didn’t drop and also she had a couple of loose drives which opened the door for Katherine.

Tilly played Maggie Findlay (Oxford Ladies) in her first knock out match and won 5/4; Annie Gowing (Frilford) in the second round 2/1, and Sophie Stone (Oxon Affiliated) in the semis, winning 6/4 to claim her place in the final.
