Henley win President's Inter-Club TrophyThe semi-finals and final for the County Scratch foursomes Interclub competition were played at Badgemore Park on Wednesday, 31 August. The course was in beautiful condition, and the weather was ideal, and all the teams played some really good golf. The morning semi-finals saw a 2/1 win for Huntercombe over Frilford Heath, and after Henley had won two of the matches against Studley Wood, the third was declared a half. In the afternoon Ali Kelly and Caroline Madeley had an easy win for Huntercombe in the first match, but then Sarah Arnold and Morag Broom from Henley had a similar easy win in the second. So the final came down to the very close match between the third pairings of Sally Woolvin and Clare Dodds from Henley and Ann Cockcroft and Meg Ashby from Huntercombe. This match had been very close all the way, but Sally and Clare came through to win on the 17th, the first time that Henley has won this trophy since 1970, 41 years ago. |
