Feeling confident and excited at the prospect that Oxfordshire could have their best finish at County Week for a number of years, the team were determined to beat Buckinghamshire and finish the week in style.
The morning foursome matches will stay in the memory bank for many years as every single team member played tremendously well. Katherine O’Connor and Jane Binning beat Danielle Montgomery and Nicole Whitmore 2up. Remaining focused, Katherine and Jane played the last hole needing a half to give the team the dream start they were looking for. Katherine’s tee shot was set up perfectly for Jane to hit the green in regulation, which she converted. However, with their opposition also on the green and a shorter putt, Katherine knew that she needed to hole her putt to guarantee victory. Never in doubt, she coolly converted and the team were off to the start they needed. In the next match, Samantha Round and Tilly Holder were again in amazing unstoppable form, beating the opposition of Holly Small and Julie Cooper 7 & 6. Now the team were ready for the morning hat trick. Lauren Jupp and Sarah Arnold got off to a flying start with four birdies on the front nine and at one point 5up in their match. However the experience of Clara Leathers and Kelly Knight showed that it’s never over until the end, winning three holes on the back nine to go back to only 2down with five to play. The difficult 14th hole proved a turning point where the momentum shifted back to Oxfordshire when Lauren holed an incredible chip for a birdie three and to go back to 3up. On the next hole, again brilliant short game from Lauren and Sarah meant that the pair managed their par and remained 3up with three to play. Determined to finish their round before the tricky 17th hole, they again managed to get up and down from off the green to secure victory. The pair were jubilant and remained unbeaten in their three foursome matches.

Lunch tastes so much better being 3 points up!!
In the final afternoon, the team were clearly tired after four consecutive days of highly competitive golf, however, the momentum of victory kept them going. They knew that they needed a big win in the afternoon to stand any chance of winning County Week.
In the top match, Katherine O’Connor played against Nicole Whitmore and unfortunately lost 3 & 2, mainly due to some incredible putting from her opponent. Jane Binning went out second and found it tough against Danielle Montgomery losing 4 & 3, so the start wasn’t part of the dream script. However, Samantha Round once again performed to the highest level and took control of her match. Still needing a win or half down the 17th hole, she holed a tough 10 foot putt to win her match 2 & 1. Next down the hill on the 17th hole was Lauren Jupp, who hit a huge second shot to go through the par 5 in two. A steady chip and two putts were required to half the hole and win the match 2 & 1. This secured the match win over Buckinghamshire, but the team wanted to win the remaining matches. Tilly Holder won comfortably on the 13th hole 6 & 5 over Vicky Harris, leaving the final match of Ali Kelly against Sarah Mace to battle down the last hole to finish off the week. Ali produced a brilliant up and down at the last in front of large crowds to ensure a halved match, resulting in Oxfordshire winning 6 ˝ to 2 ˝ .
