Morning Foursomes

The Tadmarton Heath pairing of Samantha Round and Katherine O’Connor led the way on day 3 in the morning foursome, and what a great start they made in our match against Warwickshire. Their match was so close throughout with outstanding golf being displayed by both teams. Going down the last our pairing remained cool and focused. Sam hit the green in regulation and then Katherine holed a twenty foot putt for birdie to win the match. This was exactly the start we needed! Then followed a complete gem of a match, where Tilly Holder and Lauren Jupp teamed up to win 8&6 against Kath Ashley and Rachel Rusted. Tilly and Lauren’s golf was flawless and put their opponents under pressure from the start. I’m absolutely delighted that following this win, Lauren with be presented with her County Colours. Photo’s on the website will follow shortly. In the last pairing we had Sarah Amos and myself making their debut this week, but unfortunately their opponents were just too strong and therefore the match finished 5 & 4 to Warwickshire.

This was however the first foursome win this week and the team felt very positive going into the afternoon singles.

Afternoon Singles

Samantha Round was again first out as County Champion and had a super match against Abbey Gittings, but after four consecutive birdies from the opposition it just proved too tough and the match finished 5 & 4 to Warwickshire. In the second match, Tilly Holder was playing Hannah Coles and had a very close game with only one or two holes exchanging hands. Tilly however, was one down playing the last but produced an amazing second shot into the green to about 5 feet to win the hole and halve the match. The third match of Katherine O’Connor and Lauren Taylor was again very close with fabulous golf being played by both girls. Over the last few holes however the opposition pulled ahead and eventually won 2 & 1. Fourth to play was Jane Binning and Charlotte Dalton and again this match was very close, but unfortunately Jane lost 2 & 1. Fifth on the list was Lauren Jupp against Elizabeth Haycock and even after Lauren hitting the green on the par four 16th hole off the tee, it wasn’t enough to win the match and she lost 1 down. Last out was Annie Gowing playing Claire Howells and I’m thrilled to report that Annie won her match comfortably 3 & 2, remaining in control throughout and never losing her lead. It was a pleasure to watch!

This resulted in another defeat for the team and naturally they are feeling very disappointed. We are now looking for a strong finish to the week, which would fairly reflect the good golf that has been played and the recognition they deserve.

Match Won by Warwickshire 5 ½ to 3 ½
