REPORT

MONDAY 8th AUGUST
This year we had four rookies – Millie, Sally, Alex & Olivia along with the more experienced players of Gemma (Capt), Sophie, Imogen & Helen did Oxfordshire proud on their playing ability & conduct.

The weather stayed fine for us over the two days, the gusty wind giving the players some tricky decisions to make on club selection.  Frilford Heath Golf Club was an excellent venue and treated us magnificently.

All Counties played their Stableford competition on Monday morning, Oxon playing with Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire playing with Berkshire.

Our pairings of Gemma Clements & Olivia Herring, Sophie Stone & Alex Pitts, Imogen Vessey & Helen Cross, and Millie Anderson & Sally Ayres worked well and all the girls enjoyed the competition. We came third with 94 pts. Buckinghamshire won with 101 pts.

On Monday afternoon we played Buckinghamshire, all the girls playing against opponents close to half their handicaps.  Sophie Stone & Millie Anderson played magnificently & managed wins with some solid play & determination.

Result 5-2 to Buckinghamshire

TUESDAY 9th AUGUST
Tuesday morning our opponents were Berkshire.  Our expectations were high but sadly despite some good performances we only managed to win one match – Sophie Stone coming back from two down to beat  her opponent on the last.

Result 6-1 to Berkshire

On Tuesday afternoon, despite being a bit deflated from the disappointing morning match, the team went out with determination to face a very strong Hertfordshire squad – again our girls were up against players with very low handicaps.

We played well and many matches went to the 14th or 15th holes. Gemma gave us a much valued ½ in her match against a very low handicapper.

Result 6½ – ½ to Hertfordshire

The team have really benefited from JCMD and have bonded extremely well with ages ranging from 12-18, handicaps from 5-22.

Congratulations to Sophie Stone who was awarded the Boddington Trophy for the most improved player of the year. Not only has Sophie reduced her handicap from 12 to 7 but she has had some remarkable performances in the County Championship, 2nd team matches and won two out of three matches this week.
