BB&O GIRLS CHAMPIONSHIPS

A strong field of under 18’s from Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire played at Castle Royle on 8th April for the BB&O Championship Title.  The tight fairways, numerous bunkers and fast greens, made the course a real challenge.

There were 37 players in the main competition, with just 6 from Oxfordshire and 12 from Berkshire,  8 girls played in the Stableford competition of whom 4 were from Oxfordshire.  One of the youngsters from Buckinghamshire certainly had a day to remember she played to 12 – half her handicap and had a nett 64.

The Oxfordshire girls didn’t fare quite so well but Flora McPhail had a good round with a nett 74, Cara Gainer’s otherwise solid round was spoilt by an 11 on one hole and she ended up with a nett 77.   Sophie Stone won the 2nd handicap prize with a nett 73 and Olivia Herring won the stableford competition for girls with handicaps over 30 with 32 points.

The Championship winner for the second year running was Zoe Fitz-Costa from Buckinghamshire with a gross 77.   On another positive note, on handicap, all except one of our 6 entrants finished in the top 16 and on the gross score we had 3 players in the top 8 with Buckinghamshire taking the other 5 spots.

Buckinghamshire’s team of Zoe Fitz-Costa, Chloe Li and Lucy Matthews won the team event with a nett score of 148 (2 best scores from the team of 3).  Oxfordshire’s team of Gemma Clements, Sophie Stone and Cara Gainer were second with a nett 150.
