1st team friendly matches played in good spirit

In April we have had two friendly matches completed, as warm up to County Match Week.

Match v Hampshire

The match took place at North Hants GC on 24th March and consisted of 2 x Foursomes and 3 x singles.

Hampshire are traditionally very strong opposition with the majority of the team being either plus, scratch or low single figure handicaps. It was the same again this year, however whilst we didn’t manage any points the team can all hold their heads high as they were all giving away at least 5 shots on their handicaps to their opponents. Despite this everyone fought until the 16th, 17th or 18th holes. Fantastic spirit!

Match v Armed Forces

This is our second year of the match against the joint Armed Forces team – it was held on 14th April at Frilford Heath GC and the format was expanded to be 4 x Foursomes in the morning and 8 x Singles in the afternoon.

Like the Hampshire match, this saw our girls up against some very strong opposition, again with the majority of their team being either scratch or low single handicap.

The morning Foursomes saw some great play and Oxon ended the session up 2 ½ v 1 ½ - great wins for Kate & Amy, Annis & Grace, and a half for Caroline & Tracy (fantastic as both their opposition were off scratch).

The afternoon was a bit more challenging and whilst there were fantastic wins for Tracy and Amy, and halves for Grace and Kate, it came down to the very last putt in last singles game to determine the final overall result. A birdie for the opposition squared that particular game, and the crucial ½ point that earned them meant that the final result was a 6 ½ v 5 ½ win for the Armed Forces.

A great match played in a wonderful spirit and we look forward to the return match next year!
