Bronze Final 2019

Jane Fleming, Tadmarton Heath v Carole Durant, Cotswolds Club

A few notes from Jane Fleming

“I have always enjoyed playing in the bronze qualifier. This year it was held at Cotswolds Club Chipping Norton.

After a winter of little or no golf for me, Sue Piggott and I entered. I do like that course, having been a member there for many years, before joining to Tadmarton Heath. It proved to be a very enjoyable day.

The quarter final, semi final and final matches were to be held at Henley Golf Club on the weekend of the 13th and 14th April.

I played reasonably well in the qualifier and won a place to play in the quarter-final. Great excitement! Then the reality of possibly playing three rounds of golf on a beautiful, if challenging course at the far end of the county, over two days needed some planning.

Sue offered to caddy for me, for the whole weekend! If need be. Thanks Sue.

Thanks Geraldine for the match on Saturday. It was tough one and good fun.

On Sunday we gathered before 8am. Serious frost on the ground. There were many ladies and caddies from Cotswolds Club playing in the mid silver and bronze matches. All proudly wearing their bright pink sweaters and me and Sue in our blue.

Much “friendly” banter ensued. No time to let Team Tadmarton down.

Sheer determination was needed.

The morning match was against one Cotswolds friend and the afternoon match against another.

Sue’s stabilising influence and support was brilliant. The weather was kind to us. Windy and cold, but no rain.

I did play quite a few rubbish shots, especially in Sunday afternoon, but so did my opponent. I won the match and the Championship on the 17th.

I felt like Tiger Woods in Oxfordshire terms.  It was all such fun.

Thanks to all the organisers, to all the players and opponents, to all who gave me support and advice and to all who have sent the wonderful good wishes since.
