Success for Ava at Junior British Masters

Congratulations to Ava Fegan-Smith who this week won the Junior British Masters Under 12  9 hole competition on the Robert Rock Tour. The event was was held at The Belfry and Ava played the Brabazon Course from the red tees. The course has lots of water and bunkers to negotiate but clearly these were not a problem for Ava! It was very close for all 9 holes but Ava won on the 9th - a par 4 hole of 348 yards where she sunk a 7 foot putt for a 5 nett eagle! Ava is currently top of the Order...

BB&O Girls' Championships

Oxfordshire hosted this prestigious event at Badgemore Park Golf Club. After heavy snow on Monday we were very lucky that Wednesday dawned bright and dry albeit with a biting wind. Despite 3 months of lockdown we were able to to field 27 players between the medal and stableford competitions with handicaps ranging from +2 - 29. Success for Ellie @ Drayton Park

Our Junior Captain, Ellie Phillips, scored a majestic 42 pts to win the Summer Meeting Trophy @ Drayton Park GC. It was a tough day for the players as the wind was very strong, but Ellie must have been watching the Women's Open @ Royal Troon to see how to cope with such conditions. Ruby Colleton finished in second place on 35 pts and Megan Bishop beat Beth Ball & Gracie Gillespie on countback to take third with 31pts.Well done to everyone who played.

Scoring was hot at the Junior Girls' Championships

Despite the baking heat, our junior girls posted some amazing scores in the County Junior Girls' Championships held at Badgemore Park GC. Our 2020 Girls' Champion is Tia Johnstone from Frilford Heath scoring a gross 78 with Freya Coughlan, also from Frilford, coming second with a gross 82. Junior County Squad 3-ball

Well done to our Junior Captain, Ellie Phillips, and her team of Holly Gibbs and Ellie Mitchell. They won today's Rumble event @ Kirtlington GC with a score of 77 pts.Next came Freya Coughlan's team with 71pts. Tia Johnstone's & Grace Boag-Matthews' teams both scored 70pts.

Midlands South Junior Championships

Regretfully, the MS Junior Championships 2020 have been cancelled as they clashed with England Golf's rescheduled Girls' U18 Amateur Open Stroke-play event which will now be held on the 25th -27th August @ Sandy Lodge GC, Northwood. Entry forms can be found on their website from the 1st May.

Our County Juniors win the BB&O Team Trophy

Another successful Sunday for Oxfordshire. Following their 6-0 win over the Oxon Boys Junior League on the 8th March, our county girls won the BB&O Team Stableford Trophy at Oakland Park GC on the 15th. They scored an amazing 201pts with Ellie Mitchell finishing second and Allie Holtom third in the individual event.

Ruby Colleton from Witney Lakes scored 39 points to win the 18-hole stableford in the Nicola Sparks Memorial Competitions which are held annually at Burford GC. Megan Bishop from The Wychwood was second and Freya Coughlan from Frilford Heath finished 3rd, both on 36 points. In the Short Course competition, Louise Hodgkinson from Frilford Heath picked up the trophy with Kirsty Soffe from Burford in second place.

The Oxfordshire team of Allie Holtom (Henley), Gracie Gillespie (Studley Wood) & Grace Beardsley (Drayton Park) represented BB&O in the Midlands South Handicap Finals held at Overstone Park Resort, Northants. Their opposition was Worcestershire & Herefordshire who represented the North Midlands South region. Our girls had to play some strong opponents but we won all the matches and some amazing golf from both sides was played in the process.

Freya Coughlan from Frilford Heath GC posted two rounds in the 60s to become the MS Nett Champion for 2019. The 36-hole event was held at Gaudet Luce GC in Worcestershire. Freya is well on her way to becoming a single-figure handicapper.
