Captain’s Trophy Finals Day
06 August, 2026
Wednesday 5 August
Badgemore Park GC
Badgemore Park hosted this year’s Captain’s Trophy Finals Day on Wednesday 5 August, with Oxford Ladies facing Frilford Heath and Feldon Valley taking on Huntercombe in the morning semi-finals. Conditions were ideal in temperature, if breezy at times, and the hard, firm fairways seen across the county made for an excellent test of matchplay golf.

Throughout the morning matches, the scores swung one way and then the other. There was good golf from all four clubs, with most matches reaching the course’s tricky closing holes. Nerves were tested, clubmates waited anxiously for the final results, and both semi-finals finished close at 2–1, with Frilford Heath and Huntercombe progressing to the final.

With the morning matches reaching the closing holes, the turnaround before the final was extremely tight, particularly for Huntercombe. The afternoon match followed the same pattern, with scoring ebbing and flowing across close, tense and fascinating contests. By the time the first match reached the 18th hole, Frilford Heath and Huntercombe had each recorded a win. The remaining players, unaware of the overall score, reached the tricky final hole, where Frilford played sensible percentage golf to halve the hole, win the match and lift the trophy.

Throughout the day, brilliant team camaraderie and friendly competition marked the event. It was truly a fantastic day to witness. Thank you to Badgemore Park and Pauline Bishop (County Delegate) for acting as excellent hosts, and to the County’s Lorraine Jones (K/O Organiser) and Denise Santilli (Competition Secretary) for delivering such a well-run event.
Tracy Roberts
County Captain
