County Match Week Day 1

County Match Week Day 1

The Midlands South County Week 2023 started today at Sonning Golf Club - a sunny but breezy day for the first two sessions. There was some amazing golf played by the Oxfordshire team which is not reflected by the final results. The whole team should be very proud of themselves.

Day 1 AM - Northamptonshire

Oxfordshire County Champion Megan Bishop led the way along with her foursomes partner Caroline Johnson - playing fantastic golf they were victorious on the 13th hole. Next off were Mairi Weir and Tracy Roberts, both playing in their first County Match Weeks - they were up against very strong and experienced opponents and lost on the 12th hole. Millie Anderson was the first of the singles players  - it was a hard fought match where she was both up and down but unfortunately lost the match on the 18th green. Next in the singles was Kate Evans, playing against a youngster from Northamptonshire with significant length of the tee - driving the green on most of the par 4 holes. Kate lost on the 12th. Sarah Barter, playing in only her second County Match Week, was the final singles player and was never down against her opponent, winning on the 18th.

Oxfordshire 2 - Northamptonshire 3

Day 1 PM - Buckinghamshire

Millie & Kate were paired together for the first afternoon foursomes against two plus handicap players and competed fiercely to take the match to the 16th before finally succumbing to their superior firepower. The morning's winning combination of Caroline and Megan made an equally valiant attempt to overcome two more plus handicap girls from Bucks, also succumbing on the 16th. The afternoon singles all resulted in defeats for Mairi, Sarah Barter and Elizabeth Ball (in her first County Match Week game) but all played brilliantly against the toughest of opposition.

Oxfordshire 0 - Buckinghamshire 5
