Forging the Future: Squad Training Gains Momentum
12 April, 2026
While the match season is now officially underway, the hard work began long before the first tee time. Our county squad has been immersed in a rigorous winter and spring training programme, designed to sharpen both the physical and mental aspects of the game.
Expert Guidance
Under the watchful eye of our County Coach, Deana Rushworth, the players have been refining everything from technical swing mechanics to high-pressure short-game scenarios. The focus has been clear: marginal gains. Whether it’s finding an extra five yards off the tee or mastering the "clutch" eight-footer, the dedication has been exemplary.
The "CoachNow" Revolution
A key pillar of our recent training has been the integration of the CoachNow app. This digital platform has transformed how the squad communicates, allowing players to:
- Upload swing videos for instant feedback.
- Log "Stat-Attack" data from practice rounds.
- Share course management strategies (like the recent deep-dive into the nuances of Tadmarton’s layout ahead of county match week).
Mental Fortitude & Team Culture
Training hasn't just been about hitting balls. We’ve placed a significant emphasis on Course Mapping and Mental Resilience. By plotting strategy and discussing "what-if" scenarios as a group, the players are arriving at matches with a unified game plan and the body language of a winning team.
The camaraderie built during these sessions was evident at the recent Berkshire match; despite the hail and the wind, the team spirit never wavered.
We spent a day at Frilford Heath under Deana’s watchful gaze and specifically worked on landing targets, putting, managing heart-rate for the key putts, and a physical warm-up routine. Then, we took to the course to specifically practise foursomes and put the techniques taught re chipping and putting to use.

Working in three groups of four players, all in handicap band, each player played six holes with a partner, before swapping, and that continued through to the 18th. The aim is to improve our communication, body language, technique, and focus.
The Outlook
The squad is looking sharper than ever. With the fundamentals locked in and a culture of continuous improvement and accountability taking hold, we are excited to see this preparation translate into an improvement in results as the season progresses.
