Oxfordshire Round Off Season with Hard-Fought Victory at Rushden
13 August, 2026
Oxfordshire secured a 5th-place finish in the Midlands South Second Division with a 3.5–2.5 win against Worcestershire and Herefordshire. In searing heat, it was a real job to keep cool, let alone play golf, with temperatures soaring over 35°C at Rushden Golf Club in Northamptonshire.
One of our County players of the season, Vicky Turner (Oxford GC), led from the front again, grinding down her young opponent to win the first match 2&1. At the other end, Emma Whiteley (Huntercombe), out last, recorded our biggest win of the afternoon with an impressive 5&4 success.
Defeats for Freya White (Burford) and Sarah Clarke (Henley) meant a tight finish was in store. Sue Barker (Tadmarton) halved her match, leaving her fellow Taddy & Oxfordshire teammate, Lydia Avann, to clinch the crucial final point with a 3&1 win on the 17th.

It’s a fantastic way to round off a season of overall improvement for our county squads. We now regroup and meet again in October for a final review session to set our targets for 2027, where we will look to push our performances and results even further.
